Testimony of Gratitude 2017

It has been sort of weird year for me and a lot of people. With all the chaos going on in Washington, horrible mass shootings, racial tensions, terrorists, catastrophic weather events like hurricanes and earthquakes — there is a lot to be sad and helpless about. Every day, I walk about 1.2 miles to work one way. On my walk I pass by about 10-20 vehicles or mobile homes in which people are living. They are homeless. I wish I knew how to help them.100_4322

Last year, my Mom died at the age of 88. We were close, so it was a major loss. I still have other family members alive, but the election has strained some of the relationships. Then, there have been financial challenges in my own life too…. With the cost of transportation and housing. It just never seems like you can get ahead.

Despite all of this, I have a lot to be thankful for this year. And I choose to have an attitude of gratitude every day and every minute of my life. Here is why:

  • I am 53 years young! I can still move, dance, walk, run, etc.
  • I am healthy! Some minor aches, but nothing major.
  • I am employed. Twelve years at the same company.
  • I am loved. Twenty-nine years together in a committed relationship.
  • I am cherished. By friends and family who call, write, text and just hang out with me.
  • I live in a beautiful city. Close to the ocean, the mountains, desert… not to mention lots of fun activities to do like hikes, movies, museums, concerts, etc.
  • God loves me. Even when I don’t, I know that his love for me never wavers.
  • My Mom is now one of my guardian angels watching out for me.
  • I have a beautiful little bird named AJ that brightens my days with his song and his presence.
  • I see the beauty all around me: flowers growing, birds chirping, blue sky, people of all races and colors.

I choose to have an Attitude of Gratitude in my life. I am constantly saying thanks for my many blessings. If you are blessed, pass it on. I am grateful for all that I have. And I encourage everyone to adopt a positive attitude to life. Let’s all help to lift each other up. We owe it to one another and the planet.

Testimonies of Gratitude 2015

I have a lot to be thankful for in my life. I am alive and reasonably healthy. I have a career and some longevity on my job. I have friends and family who love me. And I have a life partner who brightens my day. This year has seen a few challenges though, and I am grateful that things are looking up again. Gratitude-rock

Health and Family
This year has been tough for some of my family members and friends. They suffered health challenges that required long hospital stays and recuperation periods. I am grateful that these individuals are on the mend.

Other relatives were not as lucky, but I am still thankful for the time I had with them. And that they are no longer suffering.

We were able to reconnect with distant family members on the East Coast this year. It took a lot of planning and sacrifices to make it happen. But it was worth it, and we will be reliving those memories for years to come. It was also great to finally meet one of my penpals that I had been talking to for 20+ years.

Marriage Equality
Finally the Supreme Court ruled on the decision. And by ruling in favor of marriage equality, the Court is strengthening and legitimizing all LGBT couples. We are setting a great example for the world. And saving future generations from feeling like they don’t belong. Our relationships are just as valid and important as straight couples.

Getting Older
I would like to think that for my generation we are rewriting what it means to be an “older” person in the USA.

For all of the above things and more, I am eternally grateful. My you have a great holiday season, and a prosperous New Year. I look forward to keeping you entertained, engaged and enlightened in the New Year.

My Testimony of Gratitude 2014

As I look back on this past year, I have a lot to be thankful and grateful for. I celebrated a milestone birthday, I turned 50. It was an excellent day filled with family, friends, laughter and love.KiltMan Thanksgiving

I am so grateful to be healthy, have a job and to have a home. I celebrated 9 years at my job this year, and I am happy to be there.

I get to live in a city that has great weather and so many fun activities to do. I get to walk, hike, dance, swim and have picnics in the park.

I get to come home every day to my loving partner, Rasheed — 25 years and we are still in love. And we are looking forward to getting married in the near future.

I am thankful to have my parents still living, and appreciate all that they do for me. I have so many people that love and care for me: family, friends, penpals, coworkers, email friends and more. To know that I have people who care all around the world is awesome to me.

I am thankful for my creativity, originality and youthful outlook. I hope that I can continue to share my gifts and talents with others.

I am thankful for our animal companions. We lost 2 of them this year, but we were lucky to have some many wonderful times together. We also were grateful to have known our friend, Elliott, who also died this year, and were blessed to have him in our lives.

Like anyone, I have my times when I get sad and feel frustrated. But at the end of the day, I come back to the belief that life is a gift. And we should treasure every moment of every day. Every night before I drift off, I count my blessings and say “Thank You” for all that God has done for me.

Testimonies of Gratitude

I try my best to live in gratitude every minute of every day. I wanted to spotlight three things that I am grateful for:

I have been fortunate to meet and get to know some great people over the years. These are people that I met through various pen pal programs over the years — from the Gay Center, fan clubs for Madonna and Janet, and others from the internet. I have only met 2 of them over the years, most of our communications have been via letters and later on via emails. One friend I have been writing to for almost 30 years and we have never met. I just want to say how much I appreciate their friendship and let them know how much I love them in my life.

I can’t imagine a life without music. It makes me smile, makes me want to dance and sing along. Hearing certain songs brings great feelings about the time the song came out, who I was friends with, what we were doing. Others remind me of how lucky I am to have my partner. Others remind me of all the fun shows I have been to over the years, and how the performer was able to make a connection with the audience. I am grateful to my parents to exposing me to their favorites and having all those Christmas sing-alongs over the years.

When I was young, I really felt different and that I didn’t fit in. I was the square peg in the round hole. I was the giraffe in the room — someone who would stand out in a  room and not for a good reason. But as I have gotten older, I have realized an important lesson. God does not make mistakes. He made me the beautiful and unique individual I am today. I don’t need to “fit in”; I can be the man I want to be, and I don’t have to conform to what society or religion expects me to be. I am Dan and that’s all there is to it.WhyConform

This is just a small sample of my gratitude list. Being grateful is a way of life in my life, I hope you make it one in yours.

Finding the Celebration in Everyday Life

I am approaching middle age. Hey, it happens! I appreciate that I have a sense of humor about myself and try to laugh every day at life’s craziness. There are plenty of bad, sad, and tragic happenings in the world. If you listened to all the news reports, I don’t see how you could get out of bed in the morning. For me though, there are tons of great things in life that keep my smiling and dancing as I enjoy my journey on planet Earth.shutterstock_100190123

See beauty wherever you go. Appreciate the landscape where you live. I am talking about natural beauty like trees, mountains and oceans. As well as man-made beauty like architecture, paintings and bridges. And don’t forget animals too, even insects can be interesting and beautiful at times.

Don’t forget people too. Yes, of course, it is nice to see good looking people. But not everyone is Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie. But maybe they have a great smile, a charming personality or a contagious laugh. Beauty is more than skin deep. When you love yourself, others will love you too.

Music is one of my life’s joy. I can’t imagine a life without it. Everything from that catchy top 40 hit to a symphony by Beethoven. I appreciate the artistry and talent involved in making a record, singing a song or playing an instrument.

I also appreciate all of life’s everyday sounds too: The chirping of my pet birds, the snores of my life partner laying next to me, and rain on the rooftops.

Value your relationships. I appreciate everyone who is in my life. From the checker at the grocery store who gets me through the line quickly, to my next door neighbor who comes over for a visit, to my coworkers, family, friends, email pals, aquaintences and on & on.

Be thankful for all your blessings. From the job you go to, to having food in your kitchen and gas in your car. There are so many things to be grateful for. Celebrate the fact that you are alive and have a positive attitude as you go about your day.

I hope you celebrate your life — every day of your life. If you do, you are sure to spread your inner joy wherever you go.

Giving Gratitude and Thanks

The following article was compiled from various websites. I want to wish everyone a fantastic Thanksgiving. Every year my church cooks and serves a full Thanksgiving meal for 1000 homeless/less advantaged people on the day before Thanksgiving Thursday. I am not able to help out this year due to other commitments, but I wanted to give a shout out to St. Monica and all they do for the community. It is a great example of the true meaning of the season.

The point of Thanksgiving is to remember the things we have to be grateful for. It’s our special time to give thanks… not just for the obvious, like food, but for the thousands of fortunate moments, the multitude of blessings that we receive each year.

That’s not always as easy as it sounds. We tend to remember the bad things much more easily than the good. That’s where this article comes in. using the tips below, you can make thankfulness an everyday habit. It’s a skill that will benefit you throughout the year.

Begin by keeping a gratitude journal. Don’t write down negative things; only positive ones. For example, “I’m grateful that I made it through that heavy rush hour traffic safely.” “I’m grateful that I got to see a beautiful sunset.” “I’m grateful that I have a class at school that I really like.”
