Views on pop culture through my eyes

Recently I read an article that talked about items that were important to this one particular individual. We get attached to things, for sure. We associate feelings and memories to them. When I thought about what I would save in a emergency first, other than people and pets, it would be a computer and photo albums. But what if you could only save 5 items, and not 5 boxes of stuff? So here is my list of the 5 items I would want to save and why:Fire

  1. Winnie the Pooh
This was one of my childhood toys. I remember the Christmas I got him, and I was jumping for joy when I opened the package. He still looks pretty good. He reminds me of childhood innocence and family gatherings for the holidays. He always has unconditional love for me, not matter what I am going through.
  1. My Painting
In college, I majored in art. I am lucky enough to say I am working in the field I got my degree in, which is Graphic Design. One of my classes, was Color. I did a great acrylic painting for this class and named it “Order & Chaos”. I even got chosen to be in a student art show with it. Now, it is proudly displayed in the entry way of my home.
  2. Picture of us from when we first started dating
My lover and I have been together for over 25 years. His name is Rasheed and we met about 30 years ago at a gay youth group. He were more aquaintances at first, and had some mutual friends. But we hit it off, and have never looked back. We are getting married this year. We took a pic when we first started dating, we both look like kids… which we were! I remember all the fun times we have had over the years, and how lucky I am to have him.
  3. Madonna Blonde Ambition VHS tape
Madonna is my favorite singer of all time. She means so much to me. I love her for her artistry, song-writing, dancing and performance skills. Plus I love that she stands up for what she believes in, and marches to the beat of her own drum. One of her early tour masterpieces, this concert is not available on DVD…. And may never be. It was on HBO, and I taped it to VHS. It was on Laser Disc… but that is a dead format. She inspires me to be true to myself.
  4. Black Kilt
And lastly, I would save my black Utilikilt. Why that one? Why, that was the one that started it all. I liked how it looked and finally ordered one from the internet. Little did I know I would connect with it like I did. Here was a garment, that looked cool, and made me feel good when I wore it. I felt that I could be the real me…. Edgy, fun , funky, creative. I have had so many great times when wearing it: concerts, parties, parades, and much, much more.

So that’s my list of the five items I would save from my home in an emergency. What items would you save and why? I would love to hear from you.

Man!! I never thought about it…but it was good to read what you would save in a case of emergency. That is very sad that Madonna’s Blond Ambition never had a DVD released. Ok, we have the movie, but a show with all the songs are not available. That is sad….Love Like a Virgin in this tour. You always look great when you wear your kilts. As I wrote you other times, Brazil is still in the Dark Ages….a man wearing it here would be outrageous.
