Views on pop culture through my eyes

Summer is finally here! It seems like it takes forever to get here, and then it is gone before you know it. As a child, it meant time off from school. As an adult, it means BBQs, pool parties and concerts. So here is my list of what I love in summer:Dan resting in Speedos

  1. Gay Pride
For most of us in the US, your gay pride probably falls in the summer months. Los Angeles, has 2 big events: Long Beach and West Hollywood. It is a time to be proud of how far we have come, and be reminded how much further we need to go before everyone is equal. Plus it is a time to party, and people watch.
  2. Concerts
The best shows seem to come to town in the summer. There are more venues that operate only in the summer, nice outdoor amphitheatres plus special local free shows too down at a lot of parks. Nothing better than listening to some music on a warm summer night with some friends.
  3. Summer Movies
This is the time of year that the studios tend to bring out their big guns. The big movies with tons of action and special effects. Comedies and cartoons are also popular. Great summer movies from the past include: Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Iron Man and The Dark Knight. The Avengers is breaking all kinds of records this summer, and surprisingly, it is good.
  4. Pool Parties
Nothing better than having an excuse to wear Speedos (or less). Splashing around in the water, eating good food, and working on your tan. This really makes a weekend for me. Not to mention hanging out with old friends and making new ones too. Don’t forget the gay party tunes too.
  5. Less Clothes
Thank God that men get to wear less when it gets hot than women. I love seeing guys with their shirts off, and showing some leg too. Watching their muscles glistening in the sun, I am reminded how gay I really am.
  6. The Beach
A great place for sunning, swimming, bike riding and hanging out with friends. Not to mention another great place to hang out in Speedos and the site for one of my favorite adolescent memories.
  7. Warmer Weather, Longer Days
The sun stays up longer, giving you more daylight hours to have fun. You get to wear less clothes (at least on your own time). I don’t mind the heat during the day. You can always beat it by going in the pool, or go to a movie or the mall.
  8. Summer Foods
Who doesn’t love summer foods? Great fruits: berries, peaches, plums, nectarines, apricots. Not to mention great backyard BBQs with all kinds of meats: chicken, ribs, hamburgers, steaks. Smoothies, salads, popsicles, ice cream cones. All yum!
  9. Amusement Parks/Water Parks
Sure, these places are pretty crowded at this time of year. It is still fun to go. This is when the parks unveil their latest rides, stay open longer and often have shows and fireworks even. Plus, anytime I get to wear something small, tight and wet like a Speedo is awesome to me (at least to a water park). I’d be in the kilt at the amusement park.
  10. Summer Music
Doesn’t it seem like there are a lot of good party jams on the radio during the summer? These are great ear candy songs that you enjoy singing along to, dancing at the clubs to, and playing at your weekend BBQ or beach party. Past jams included: Umbrella by Rihanna and On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez. What will be the song of summer this year?

So what do you love about summer? Let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Hi Daniel. Summer is also my favourite season. Because the sun is over my head and it is so good. Also, because most of times, when it is winter, I get a cold….and it is bad. In Rio de Janeiro, it reaches easily 40ºC. Here I feel better during this season. And yeah, some guys take their tshirts off and it is sooooo good to see them.
